We here at AM&A would like to send out a special thanks to all the contributors to this year's Astoria Music Now! Festival. It was most unfortunate mother nature had not cooperated yet again this year thusly we were unable to facilitate the days events. To mention the few names of the generous donors that contributed is the least we can do to show our gratitude. In hopes to enrich the local culture of our nieghborhood we ask for your continued patronage to these fine establishments. Please support those who support your local creative community. So without further adieu we say thank you to The Sparrow Tavern, The Queens Ink, Irish Rover, Sweet Afton, Break Bar & Billiards, The Shillelagh Tavern, Astoria Park Wine & Spirits, and last but not least Bohemian Hall & Beer garden. It is because of your generous support this nieghborhood thrives.
THANK-YOU!
-Sincerly
Christo Casey and the gang @ AM&A.

For the past 4 years AM&A (in Assosiation with Make Music New York) have closed off a prime section of Newtown Ave off of 30th ave and 33rd st for an anual summer solstice block party. What we've affectionatly dubbed as Athens Triangle is now within our grasp of becoming a perminant home for a pedestrian walk space. This new space will be called the Newtown Plaza and will be very similar to that of the one in Times Square. This cannot happen without YOUR SUPPORT! To show your support for the creation of this outdoor space simply show up in numbers 7pm to the Astoria Manor on Sept. 11 when this issue is brought up to our local Community Board. Feel empowered, make a difference in your Astoria, HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Thank-you, AM&A |

John Brown Smokehouse
Come on down for the best kansas city style smokehouse this north of the south. Discover the intense flavor of bbq so effing good you could cry while enjoying the authentic sounds of NYC Bluegrass with the Birdhive Boys. Don't take our word for it, here's what everyone else has to say about John Brown!- http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2012/07/the_underground_gourmets_2012.html#photo=2x00009 Also check out the Birdhive Boys here: http://birdhiveboys.com/ Located in Long Island City (actually a part of Queens for the non-NYC-ers), if this delicious plate is anything to go by, I’m going to have to make the trek over there one day with the gang. I’m more of a North Carolina/Virginia barbecue fan myself, but these crisp, savory burnt ends with a slice of rich, buttery fois gras all tied together with a pile of vinegary, crunchy coleslaw that had a tiniest kick to it could almost, very almost, convert me to Kansas City-style barbecue. That isn’t likely to happen, but this was a great dish. Oh, and here’s what a whole tray of these juicy morsels looked like. -Brisket King of NYC. .http://www.theexperimentalgourmand.com/2012/02/28/brisket-king-of-nyc-a-brisket-fest-from-jimmys-no-43-and-food-karma-projects/ |
